BrewDog beers in the house!

After a long, long wait we have finally received an order of BrewDog beers. Due to the recent buyout of Anchor Brewing by BrewDog the order took much longer than normal and we were only able to get 4 of their beers.  Hopefully we will be able to add more in the future.

BrewDog 5AM Saint 7.00

Garnering a whopping 96 points out of 100 at ratebeer.com this 5% abv is often described as the best red ale around. I know that if I had to pick one desert island beer that this would be on the top of my list

Malts: Marris Otter, Crystal Malt Hops: Simcoe, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin, Centennial Twist: Loads of late hops and bucket-loads of dry hops

BrewDog Hardcore IPA 8.00

You thought 96 out of 100 points was impressive? Hardcore IPA is rated 99 points out of a hundred!

This Imperial/Double IPA is "hopped to hell, then dry-hopped to hell too."

According to BrewDog "This explicit ale has more hops and bitterness that any other beer brewed in the UK. This is an extreme beer rollercoaster for freaks, gypsies and international chess superstars."

All we know is that we are damned glad to finally get it in.

BrewDog Tokio 22.00

Holy crap! Tokio is an 18.2% "intergalactic fantastic oak aged" Imperial Stout. Make sure to bring some friends down with you to help drink and pay for this one.

This imperial stout is brewed with copious amounts of speciality malts, jasmine and cranberries. After fermentation BrewDog dry-hops this killer stout with a bucketload of their favourite hops before carefully ageing the beer on French toasted oak chips.

Yes, I know the bottle at the left says "Tokyo".  The batch we received is from a previous naming of Tokio and trust me this is a good thing. This beer could be laid down for years with it's insane level of alcohol.

BrewDog Paradox Smokehead 22.00

This whisky cask aged imperial stout spends a full 6 months in cask before being bottled. It seems to me that there is quite a bit of whisky left in those casks as well. You won't easily forget this beer.

New Lagunitas Beers

The only thing better than spending a week judging and drinking beer is to come home to new beers!

New Lagunitas

We received two new Lagunitas beers while I was gone.

Undercover Investigation Shut-down Ale.

This oxymoronic 'Imperial Mild'  commemorates Lagunitas 2005 St. Patricks Day party where hundreds of Laguinitas' friends showed up for a good time.  It turns out that among these many friends were several undercover officers.  Well, these officers spent the night trying to get someone to sell them some of Sonoma County's Finest.  Lagunita's employees being the good folks they are wouldn't sell any but were willing to give it away for free.  Anyway, a few people were busted for possesion and after a whole bunch of Lawyers and ATF stuff they were given a 20 day shut down to ship and sell beer.  The Lagunitas gang used that time to make more beer and install a state-of-the-art bottling line that  has made their beer better ever since.

Wilco Tango Foxtrot (WTF)

Described as a "Malty, Robust, Jobless Recovery Ale", WTF was originally planned on being called the "2010 Recovery Ale". Well, as you all know, things haven't worked out exactly like that and Lagunitas just had to say "WTF?"  Anyway, this American Strong Ale might not help out the recovery but drinking it will certainly help you forget about it.
